Mark D. Perkins

Principal Attorney

Practice Area Overview. Mark Perkins is a Principal of the firm and concentrates his practice in Estate Planning and Elder Law. He uses the most sophisticated techniques in the estate planning field. These techniques include Living Trusts, Dynasty Trusts, IRA Trusts, Medicaid Trusts, Irrevocable Life Insurance Trusts, Minor Trusts, Qualified Personal Residence Trusts, Living Wills, Power of Attorney documents, and Family Limited Partnerships.

Education and Background. Mark received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Elmhurst College with a double major in Urban Studies and Business Administration in 1987. Mark earned his Juris Doctor degree from IIT-Chicago Kent College of Law in 1990.

Work Experience. Mark began his law career practicing corporate litigation for a downtown law firm. He then founded Perkins & Associates, a private law firm concentrating in Estate Planning and Real Estate Law. Mark later became a member of the law firm of Momkus Ozog & McCluskey LLC before forming Perkins & Zayed, P.C. with Dean Zayed in 1999.

Personal. The son of a career military man, Mark lived in Germany for about 10 years, and is fluent in German. He served as an intern minister with the Chicago Church of Christ, a Church in which he and his wife Troy are very active. Mark, Troy and their sons, Kyle, Cole, and Beau reside in Oswego, IL.

Courtney Bonstrom

Practice Area Overview. Courtney Bonstrom is an Associate Attorney of the firm and concentrates her practice in Estate Planning and Elder Law. Courtney is passionate about designing and implementing custom estate plans for individuals and business owners, planning for beneficiaries with special needs, and advising on proper planning to assist elder clients and their family members on strategies to help protect and preserve their assets.   

Education and Background. Courtney received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Bethel University majoring in Business and Political Science and with a minor in History. She earned her Juris Doctor degree from Northern Illinois University College of Law.

Courtney regularly lectures on the topic of estate planning and Medicaid planning, to financial planners, accountants and various consumer groups, and has taught Business Entities and Regulations on a graduate level.

Work Experience. Courtney started her career practicing in the areas of estate planning, bankruptcy, immigration, contract, and civil litigation. Prior to joining Perkins & Zayed, P.C., Courtney also served as Brookstone Capital Management’s General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer, and is experienced in the areas of Business and Securities Law.

Personal. Courtney enjoys travel, golfing, most outdoor activities, and spending time with her husband Lucas and their young daughters, Abigail and Lena.

Harold W. Conick

Harold (Hal) W. Conick, Of-Counsel Attorney of the firm, offers supporting legal expertise to the Estate and Trust Law Group. With over thirty-five years of legal experience, Hal has represented both individuals and corporations in a multitude of commercial transactions and civil litigation. His extensive background in civil legal transactions spans estate planning, business formation and dissolution, and contracts. Hal is a private real estate investor holding an Illinois Brokers’ License. While he worked in the title insurance industry, he was involved in the title work and closing of national multimillion dollar deals involving Fortune 500 companies. Hal has also served as the President of the Wheaton Rotary Club and taught graduate level health care law at St. Francis University. He is also a Volunteer Advocate for US Senior Vets, a national non-profit organization dedicated to assisting our nation’s senior veterans and their surviving spouses. Hal is currently licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois, the Northern District of Illinois, United States Court of Appeals for Veterans’ Claims, and the United States Supreme Court. Hal also holds membership in the Federal Trial Bar, the DuPage County Bar Association, DuPage County Bar Association Foundation, National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives, and the National Organization of Veterans’ Advocates.

Dean Zayed

Practice Area Overview.  Dean Zayed is a Principal of PRIZM Financial Advisors, Inc., a financial services firm dedicated to helping its clients achieve their lifetime financial goals. Dean provides comprehensive financial planning including asset allocation, retirement planning, education planning, and portfolio management. His proprietary process entitled “Comprehensive Financial Solutions,TM” successfully eliminates the fear, anxiety and hassle clients often face in their financial affairs. Dean uses his extensive experience to offer a one-source solution for the management, growth, and preservation of his clients’ wealth.                                                                                    

Education and Background. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from Northwestern University, where he completed the Business Institutions Program, the Undergraduate Leadership Program and was a member of Omicron Delta Epsilon Economics Honor Society. Dean received his Juris Doctor degree from Northwestern University School of Law and a Master’s degree in Taxation from Chicago-Kent College of Law. He is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) and a member of the Illinois Forum of Estate Planning Attorneys, American Bar Association, DuPage County Bar Association and the Financial Planning Association.                                                                          

Work Experience.  After law school, Dean practiced at Momkus Ozog & McCluskey LLC in Downers Grove until forming Perkins & Zayed, P.C. with Mark D. Perkins in 2001. Dean is currently a Principal of Prizm Financial Advisors, Inc.                                    

Personal.  A lifelong resident of the Chicago area, Dean was born and raised in the northwest side of Chicago and now resides in Hinsdale, Illinois with his wife Michele and their two children, Marissa and Anthony. His main interests include world politics, reading and golf.

Jennifer N. Eseed

Practice Area Overview. Jennifer Eseed is an Associate Attorney of the firm and concentrates her practice in Estate Planning. Jennifer provides high-quality and personalized estate planning services to her clients with focuses on planning with qualified retirement assets and planning for beneficiaries with special needs.

Education and Background. Jennifer received her Bachelor of Science Degree from DePaul University with a major in International Studies and a minor in Economics, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. She earned her Juris Doctor degree from IIT-Chicago Kent College of Law, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude, was a member of the Executive Board of the Law Review and was inducted to the Order of the Coif. Jennifer has been a guest speaker on several radio shows discussing IRA Inheritance Trusts. She regularly lectures on the topic of estate planning, and IRA Inheritance Trusts in particular, to financial planners, accountants and various consumer groups.

Work Experience. While in law school, Jennifer worked in different legal capacities from the civil litigation and employment divisions of various firms to working in a judge’s chambers at the Circuit Court of Cook County. After graduating, Jennifer practiced law at a firm that represents school districts and local governments throughout Illinois until coming to Perkins & Zayed, P.C.

Personal. Jennifer and her husband enjoy traveling and they love spending time with their newborn baby girl.
